“As a counselling intern at Navera Community Connections, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow a variety of skills in a safe and encouraging environment. My supervisor Sandra’s intentionality to answer questions, concerns or general curiosities about counselling has allowed me to learn a lot about myself and the counselling skills I need to grow in. The space for learning new skills, learning, and sharing new resources, and continued development opportunities as a counselling intern has been safe and paced well. The client-centered value Navera has extended past the therapy room, and positively influences the conversations that are had surrounding how to serve clients better.
I have also appreciated the clear communication between staff members and the collaborative mindset between the counselling department and the community team. The work the community team does is such a wonderful resource for many clients. Being able to refer clients to trusted programs to attend is of high value, and another demonstration of the intentional service Navera brings to the community. This intentional care and support is evident for not only clients, but also staff members. Each staff member is intentional and supportive to one another and fosters an environment where each person can learn and grow as a person and counsellor. This care is why Navera does such great work, and has been a fruitful training ground for myself and other interns.”
